Statewide Home Prices Stabilizing
Tax Credit Closing Deadline Extended
On July 2, President Obama signed into law the Homebuyer Assistance and Improvement Act (H.R. 5623).
According to NAR:
The extension applies only to transactions that have ratified contracts in place as of April 30, 2010, that have not yet closed. The legislation is designed to create a seamless extension; the new closing deadline for eligible transactions is now September 30, 2010. There will be no gap between June 30 and the date the President signs the bill into law.
U.S. EPA delays enforcement of new lead-based paint renovation and repair rules
The U.S. EPA has issued a memorandum which delays enforcement action in regard to the Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule (RRP Rule) which is the federal rule regarding the containment of lead based paint dust in renovation and repair activities in residential housing. The EPA acknowledges the difficulties that renovators have in getting the necessary training in lead-safe work practices since the Rule went into effect in April, 2010.

Joseph Cosenza of the Oak Brook, Illinois-based Inland Real Estate Group testified on the current state of the commercial real estate market before a May 17 hearing of the U.S. House Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight & Investigations in Chicago. The purpose of the hearing was for federal lawmakers to review federal laws, regulations, programs, and policies and their impact on the commercial real estate market and to hear proposals to mitigate turmoil in this important business sector.

In Memoriam: John A. Veneris, CRB, CRS, past president of the Illinois Association of REALTORS® passed away on April 2, 2010. John was broker-owner of Realty Executives Pro/Team in Downers Grove. He was deeply committed to volunteering within the REALTOR® Association serving in many capacities at the local, state and national level. He served as president of the Mainstreet Organization of REALTORS® and in 2005 was president of the Illinois Association of REALTORS®.

More than 500 Illinois REALTORS® are expected to convene in Springfield March 23 to discuss with state lawmakers issues affecting homeowners and the real estate industry. In addition to participating in briefings on important legislative and regulatory issues facing the industry, attendees will visit personally with their lawmakers to press for passage of the Illinois Association of REALTORS® (IAR) 2010 legislative agenda as part of the 34th Annual IAR Capitol Conference.
